Sony Large Screen TVs models Failing

I have a 3 year old Sony Grand Wega 50 inch TV that cost $2400. Now after this brief use, this design, which we were told should last at least 7 years, is failing with a large blue swirl forming in the center portion of the screen. It appears that we are not alone!

The local Sony repair shop wants $1,008.95 plus sales tax ($1,071) on the color block to repair it. After presenting my case to Sony over the past 3 weeks, contact person at Sony was Carlos, Sony badge CJCD, they have offered a $400 contribution towards this repair. This came as a great letdown to me as I see hundreds of posts where this problem is very wide-spread throughout America, with many Sony large screen TVs being affected.

In fact, there are two class action suits against Sony for this failure:

Robert L. Lax & Associates in New York City, and Lange & Koncius, LLP of El Segundo, CA. See http://www.sonysxrdtvclassaction.com/main/contact.sfx

Some models that are affected: KDS-50A2000, KDS-55A2000, KDS-60A2000, KDS-R60XBR2, KDS-R70XBR2, KDF-E42A10, KDF-E50A10, KF-60WE610. There appear to be many other models that show up in blogs as defective as well.

I, along with apparently many other Sony brand loyal people, are now dropping our loyalty for some of the other choices in the market such as LG, Samsung and Panasonic.

If you are concerned about this problem, simply perform these searches on Google:

  1) "Sony optical block failure" currently 125,000 pages found.

  2) "Sony optical block class action" currently 38,000 pages found.

  3) "Sony sucks" currently renders 1.37 million pages.

  4) "Sony blue swirl optical block" currently 2,600 pages.

I hope you join me in making your voice heard to Sony by calling (239) 768-7646 with your problem or concerns.
